Working closely alongside our teammates, we naturally strike up friendships that extend beyond the meetings, trainings, and callouts. And belonging to a team with a important mission gives rise to a strong sense of camaraderie.

SAR volunteers form bonds with each other based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to helping others. Some say that the camaraderie is so strong that it carries over into their daily lives.
Here are some reasons why SAR volunteers value the camaraderie:

  • Sense of belonging: Volunteers feel like they are part of something larger than themselves.
  • Making a difference: Volunteers feel like they are making a meaningful contribution to their community.
  • Learning new skills: Volunteers get to learn new skills, such as first aid and search techniques.
  • Training: Volunteers get to train for a variety of situations, and do things they wouldn’t normally have a chance to do.
  • Spending time outdoors: Volunteers get to spend time outdoors in some fabulous locations.
  • Excitement: Volunteers get to experience the excitement and adrenaline rush when the pager goes off.
